What Happens at a Dental Cleaning Appointment?
Some people have unpleasant memories from past dentist appointments. Our staff wants to make you feel welcome and comfortable, reducing any anxiety you feel. Here’s what occurs during a regular teeth cleaning:
- Gently remove plaque and tartar. The dental hygienist scales your teeth with special tools to gently remove the plaque and tartar that have built up since your last visit.
- Polish your teeth. Using a polishing tool, the hygienist then buffs your teeth with toothpaste, giving your smile a healthy shine.
- Floss and rinse. Finally, the hygienist will expertly floss between and around all your teeth, even in the spots you have a hard time reaching at home. You’ll be asked to rinse your mouth with water to get out any tartar or food deposits that were loosened during the process.
A typical cleaning takes 20-45 minutes. We offer a number of complimentary comfort options to keep you relaxed, including noise-canceling headphones, blankets, and pillows. We also have ceiling-mounted televisions to help distract you while your teeth are being cleaned.
