Invisalign Clear Aligners
Straighten Your Teeth with Invisalign, the Clear Aligner System
Modern technology has brought about big changes in orthodontics. While traditional metal braces are still used to straighten teeth, there are now more choices available for teens and adults. Instead of wires attached to your teeth, you can get clear aligner trays called Invisalign. These removable, virtually-invisible trays correct misaligned teeth with less hassle than traditional braces. A Touch of Art Dental Studio in Wildwood, Florida offers Invisalign to our valued patients.
How Invisalign Works
With the state of the art iTero scanning technology, Dr. Davis can create an accurate 3D image of your teeth in just minutes. A series of custom clear aligner trays are then fabricated to fit over your teeth. You start with the first set, and then, after a certain number of weeks, move to the next set in the series. Over time, the clear aligners apply pressure to your teeth and move them into their correct positions for a straighter, healthier smile. To work properly, the aligners should be in place 20-22 hours every day. They may be taken off when you are eating or drinking.
Invisalign works for people with the following conditions:
- some overbite, underbite, and crossbite issues
- crowded teeth
- gap teeth
- open bite
- misaligned teeth
At A Touch of Art Dental Studio, we will always discuss your options and how effectively the various treatments will work. More severe bite issues may require traditional braces instead of clear aligners.
The Invisalign Treatment Process
The process begins with a consultation. Dr. Davis will prepare a customized plan to straighten your teeth. We will take x-rays of your teeth and jaw, and make a mold of your teeth.
After that, we create clear plastic Invisalign trays that are customized to your mouth. You’ll come in for a fitting. The dentist might decide to apply small composite patches to help improve the trays’ grip on your teeth. The trays will feel tight and strange at first, but they shouldn’t be painful.
There may be some discomfort as your teeth are being forced to move, but this discomfort lessens soon after every tray change. You may also notice some new sensitivity in your teeth, which can be treated with special toothpaste. Until your tongue gets used to the trays, you could have a slight change in the way you speak. This, too, will go away.
Your dentist will let you know how often to come into the office and when to move up to the next set of trays. When the invisalign treatment is over, you may need to wear a retainer for a while to prevent your teeth from shifting back.
Invisalign vs. Braces
The main benefit of Invisalign is that they are not noticeable to other people. People with braces sometimes feel self-conscious of the way they look, but that’s not an issue with clear aligners.
Invisalign trays are removable, which makes it easier to drink, eat, and brush your teeth. Braces are permanent, and they make dental hygiene more difficult. Furthermore, because braces can break, certain foods must be avoided. There are no food restrictions with Invisalign.
Invisalign trays are fitted to your mouth and do not create sores or cuts on the inner cheeks, as metal braces sometimes do.
Why would someone choose braces over Invisalign? Some teeth are too crooked for Invisalign to be effective. Also, if you do not keep the trays in your mouth the recommended 20-22 hours a day, the process may take longer or fail to work. Using Invisalign requires a certain amount of self-discipline.
How to Care for Your Teeth While Using Invisalign
You can continue to brush and floss your teeth as normal with the Invisalign trays removed. Your trays will need to be cleaned morning and night to remove bacteria. You should also rinse them each time you remove them during the day. Continue to go to the dentist for regular exams and cleanings.
The Cost of Invisalign
The cost will vary from case to case. The average cost for an invisalign treatment is about $5,000. It could be partially covered by your dental insurance plan. We will fully explain your costs before you agree to any treatment at A Touch of Art Dental Studio.
How Long Does Invisalign Take?
Every case is unique, so there is no set time. Typical cases take 6-18 months.
